Matthew visited the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre in Croydon so that he could learn what services we need in Hendon. Currently this is the only such centre for the whole of London and Matthew is working closely with the Mayor of London’s team to bring a crisis centre to North London so that our residents have better access to suitable services should they become a victim of this terrible crime.
Both Matthew and Barnet Council supported events to mark White Ribbon Day last November. This is a campaign which is part of a global movement run by men that aims to stop violence against women.
Matthew said, “To stop this violence, political representatives have a responsibility to take real action and not just take the easy route of publicly signing up to campaigns. Consequently, I am actively working to ensure that the pledge by Boris Johnson to open three new rape crisis centres in London happens to ensure that adequate provision exists for the women of Hendon.
This is real action on an issue that I take immensely seriously. If elected to Parliament for Hendon I will continue to act, not just talk, to end violence against women.”
