Val grew up and went to school in Hendon, and later moved to Mill Hill where she married and brought up her son and daughter.

Elliot first stood for election in 2014 when he lost by just 9 votes. He was then elected in 2018 to represent Hale ward, then due to boundary changes in 2022 he was elected to the ward of Mill Hill where he has lived with his wife and family for 35 years.
